We aim to provide an environment where all children are able to achieve their potential.

We follow the definition in the Children and Families Act 2014: A young person has SEND if they have a learning difficulty or disability which calls for special educational provision, namely provision that is different from, or additional to, that normally available to young people of the same age.

SEND is categorised under four broad areas (Code of Practice, 6.28):

  • Sensory and/or physical needs.
  • Communication and interaction
  • Cognition and learning
  • Social, emotional and mental health difficulties

We endeavour to work with parents of children who are registerd with a Special Educational Needs  to achieve excellence for all.

How We Support Children with Additional Needs (Graduated Response)

At our school, we are committed to supporting all children to thrive. We follow a graduated approach to identifying and meeting children’s needs, as set out in the SEND Code of Practice. This means support is put in place early and increased gradually if needed.

We work closely with children, parents/carers, and staff to understand each child as an individual. We identify children who may need extra support through:

  • Teachers’ day‑to‑day observations and assessments
  • Conversations with parents and carers
  • Advice from external professionals where appropriate

Support is provided in different levels, depending on a child’s needs:

Wave 1: Quality First Teaching

All children receive high‑quality teaching in the classroom. Lessons are carefully planned and adapted so that children can access learning in ways that suit them.

Wave 2: Targeted Support

Some children may benefit from extra help, such as short‑term small group work or focused support to help them make progress in a particular area.

Wave 3: SEND Support

For children with more significant needs, support is personalised to the child and may involve specialist advice from outside professionals such as therapists or specialist teachers.

Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP)

A small number of children with complex and long‑term needs may require a statutory assessment. If appropriate, this can lead to an Education, Health and Care Plan, which sets out the support needed to help the child succeed.

We strongly believe in inclusion and aim to ensure that every child feels safe, valued and supported. We regularly review the support in place and work in partnership with families to make sure each child gets the help they need to reach their full potential.

Inclusion, Accessibility and Equality

In line with the Equality Act 2010, we make reasonable adjustments to ensure disabled
young people are not disadvantaged. We maintain an Accessibility Plan and actively address potential barriers to participation, including curriculum, environment, and communication.

The school’s Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator is Mrs Chapman (Assistant headteacher and Designated safeguarding Lead) and she will be happy to discuss any concerns parents may have with regard to the school’s Additional Needs or SEND provision.
