‘’A high-quality computing education equips pupils to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world. ‘’
National Curriculum 2014
Curriculum Intent
The intent of our Computing curriculum at Breckon Hill Primary School is to provide an inclusive and accessible curriculum for all pupils, enabling them to know more, remember more and understand more. We aim to equip children with essential life skills, so they can use technology confidently, independently, safely and responsibly.
Through high‑quality resources and engaging learning experiences, pupils develop digital literacy alongside creativity, resilience, problem‑solving and critical thinking, fostering confidence and enjoyment in computing.
Curriculum Implementation
At Breckon Hill, computing is taught through discrete weekly lessons using the Teach Computing scheme, which has been personalised to enrich our curriculum offer. The curriculum is carefully mapped to the 2014 National Curriculum, ensuring clear progression and full coverage of key knowledge and skills.
Lessons are sequenced across the school so pupils revisit and build on learning over time. Pupils use a range of digital devices, apps and software, alongside physical programming resources, to develop their computational thinking and understanding of how technology works. Digital literacy is embedded throughout the curriculum and closely linked to PSHE, helping pupils make meaningful connections between computing and the real world.
Curriculum Impact
At Breckon Hill, our Computing curriculum ensures pupils receive a fun, engaging and high‑quality education that prepares them for a technology‑rich world. Pupils develop secure knowledge and skills through progressive learning that is regularly revisited and built upon over time.
Assessment and ongoing review support strong progress for all learners. As a result, pupils become confident, digitally literate and responsible users of technology, leaving primary school well prepared for the next stage of their education and life in an increasingly digital society.
Online Safety
As part of our commitment to supporting the whole school community, we send out a monthly Online Safety Newsletter. This provides parents with up-to-date guidance, useful tips, and clear information about how to help children use technology safely and responsibly at home. We also have visitors into school such as the PCSO to talk to pupils about the importance of keeping safe online. Our computing lead holds meetings each year to share the lateset news around online risks and supports families with keeping their children safe online.
