Sports Funding Report 15/16

Breckon Hill Primary understands and values the importance of physical activity and sport. The children are encouraged to undertake a range of sports and activities both within the Physical Education (PE) curriculum and also in extra-curricular activities. The Departments for Education, Health and Culture and Media and Sport have allocated ring-fenced funding to support the provision of PE and sport in schools.

In the academic year 2015/16 we received £9,400. At Breckon Hill we spent this money in the following way:

  • Pooling together a proportion of the funding with other Middlesbrough schools as part of the Middlesbrough Primary Schools Sports Partnership
  • Providing extra-curricular activities in a broad range of sports, encouraging all children to be involved, such as horse-riding and Saturday Walking Clubs
  • Purchase of additional PE resources to ensure all children have maximum access to individual equipment
  • Employment of additional coach to work alongside staff to provide quality in areas of the PE curriculum and a professional cricket coach
  • The purchase of suitable sportswear to allow all KS2 children to be properly dressed for outdoor sports activities.

The impact of this spending has been:

  • A fully resourced curriculum allowing all children the opportunity to take a full part in a wide range of activities during lesson time.
  • Opportunities for a larger number of children to take part in inter-school competitions and festivals. A large proportion of Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 take part in after-school sporting clubs provided by the school staff over the school year.
  • The training of two members of staff to support the teaching of swimming.

Within the school day, Breckon Hill encourages learning in all aspects of the PE curriculum with two weekly planned lessons covering Gymnastic, Dance, Athletics or Games based activities. Alongside this the children also learn about Outdoor and Adventurous Activities and Swimming in Key Stage 2.

As a school, Breckon Hill is proud of the opportunities that are provided through extra-curricular and competitive sport for the children. In the past twelve months the following range of sporting clubs have been on offer to children within the school: Multi-sports, Football, Gymnastics, Horse-Riding, Walking

The school has competed competitively in the following sports: Athletics, Cricket, Cross Country
Running, Football, Hockey, Multi-skills, Netball and Tennis.
